Will Blackwell -Chambers Wins Charity Karting Event
Written by Jayne CooperCongratulations to Masda MX5 racer Will Blackwell-Chambers in winning last Saturday's Castle Combe Karting Challenge organised by commentator Ian Sowman and FF1600 racer Luke Cooper.
A very healthy grid of 45 drivers came along to try their skills out against each other. Second place went to Rhys Jenkins who is also a Masda MX5 racer, whilst Third place was Adam Higgins who is a FF1600 racer. The event managed to raised an amazing £723 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Thank you for our brilliant sponsors Aford Awards who donated the prizes.
The event details on our blog previously for the event were:-
Kart Champions past & present are entering this event. It currently has a number of Formula Ford 1600 drivers and Mazda drivers signed up. There is a Britcar driver and Ex Castle Combe Saloon Champion now Ford Fiesta ST driver, with a number of other drivers from race car championships across the country currently checking plans before 100% committing to the event.
The event will have a number of heats, all in preparation for the Semi-Finals. The top 26 drivers will make it through to the Grand Finals, with a C final, B final and A final. All 3 finals will be videoed for youtube, with trophies going out to the top 3 from the A final.
This event is taking place on the Saturday evening of Saturday 16th Castle Combe race meeting, on the Drive-Tech kart circuit. It is being organised by Ian Sowman Motorsport enthusiast/commentator/reporter raising money in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. We are currently exploring a number of other ways of raising money for this excellent charity through the event.
Aford Awards will be sponsoring the events Trophies and will be supplying the event with some large Silver Cups with Engraving. These Cups will be given out to the Winner, 2nd place and 3rd place Drivers.
The Mayor of Westbury, David Windess, organised his second charity kart race with a share of the money raised in aid of The Wiltshire Air Ambulance. This time he managed to get mayors from 3 other towns to take part including Bradford-on-Avon mayor Peter Leach, Frome Mayor Nick White and Glenis Ansell the Mayor of Calne. There were also teams from local businesses and pubs all trying to be the winning team in a very exciting, albeit little damp endurance karting event.
Cllr Windess said in the Wiltshire Times "It was a very enjoyable event, althoughit was very wet and cold. We managed to raise about £320 in total, which will be split between the charities evenly".
"The team from Rygor Commercials, Salisbury Branch were the winners and the team from the Crown Inn did very well" "It was one of my last events as mayor and we managed to raise £2,300 for my two charities over the year, which has been good".
If you have a charity that you would like to raise money for and would like to organise a go karting event, please email the Drive-Tech Marketing Manager, Lyn Eden at to discuss in more detail. If you would just like to come along and try karting yourself call the office on 01249 783010 and the team will give you more information.
